Everyone's favourite question! How much will it cost? There are a few really important points that go into determining how much to charge.
1. Valuing my knowledge and my time. As this is skilled and detailed work, I owe it to myself to charge a little more than minimum wage.
2. Things an employer would pay for or contribute to (but since I am my own employer, I have to fund them myself). These are things such as:
- tax, NI, and pension contributions
- holiday and sickness absence allowance
- admin time (responding to emails, attending networking events, social media content)
3. The CIEP recommended rates, which take into consideration the above points, plus level of experience and training. These are freely available on the CIEP website.
The idea behind being freelance and self-employed is to work flexibly. I usually work 12-15 hours per week, although the specific days and times will vary as my health allows. Please be assured that I'll always get back to you as soon as I can.
One thing I've learnt is that I am so much better at working in the afternoon and evening, so do bear this in mind when working with me. I will never expect you to respond outside of the working hours that are convenient for you.
Make that solid first impression by having your work proofread for any errors first.
